My name is Ellen Chenoweth. I live in Washington, DC. I have a graduate degree in dance, but am interested in most forms of contemporary art. As the great writer and thinker Jeanette Winterson puts it in her little gem of a book Art Objects, “for most of us the question ‘Do I like this?’ will always be the formative question. Vital then, that we widen the ‘I’ that we are as much as we can. Vital then, we recognize that the question ‘Do I like this?’ involves an independent object, as well as our own subjectivity.” I think one of the main endeavors of my life has been widening the I that I am, through books, visual and performing art(s), experiences, travels, conversations. I hope to bring this broad “I” to my cultural criticism and reviews. Most of these will center around dance, but there will be some other stuff thrown in as the mood strikes.
